Levende Waterbouw

On January 29 a workshop was held at the Ministry of Public Works on the theme Levende Waterbouw (Living Hydraulic Engineering). The workshop was organised by Deltares. The Xbloc team attended the workshop and presented the Eco Xbloc to the audience
Several themes were discussed. Main purpose of the workshop was to realise full scale pilot projects in the Netherlands to enhance the ecological value of hydraulic structures. The application of Eco Xblocs at IJmuiden was discussed. An idea was launched to create breakwaters with intertidal zones. These intertidal zones will enhance the ecological value of the breakwater, and will make breakwaters more attractive for visitors and tourists. Also the access to the sea for anglers will be improved. The intertidal zone will have an educational purpose as visitors will be able to watch the marine life in this zone
