Eco Xblocs handed over to Deltares
23 december 2010
Delta Marine Consultants (DMC) has been working for many years with Deltares on various projects at home and abroad. During a visit to Deltares DMC management noticed the presence of breakwater armour scale models in front of the Deltares office. DMC offered to replace the existing models, because their shape originated already from the fifties.
On December 2nd 2010 Harry Baayen,
director of Deltares received five Deltares Blue Xbloc units from William van
Niekerk, director of DMC. The handover was attended by Ron Thiemann, member of
Deltares management team, and Bas Reedijk, head of coastal engineering at DMC
and inventor of the Xbloc.
Xbloc is a Dutch breakwater armour unit,
developed by DMC and used worldwide. It was first tested in the wave flume at
Deltares in 2002. The blue Xblocs in front of the office of Deltares symbolise
the good cooperation between Deltares and DMC.
